If you were able to keep yourself awake to be amongst the 100+ million worldwide audience to endure the media spectacle that was Super Bowl 50 on Sunday night then you will have seen an array of TV ads on display. Some were good, some were not great, and as always it is completely up to the consumer to decide which were effective and which weren't. The advertisers are certainly hoping it's the former as an ad space during the game costed around a cool $5 million for
just about a 30—second slot.
The Audi ad is our favourite, the connotation of flying to space,
and the father/son connection is particularly potent and by drawing on the idea of being a commander of a powerful
machine it is likely to have been highly impactful amongst male viewers, as It considers typical
American ideals of glory and success. Similarly the use of the song 'Starman' by
David Bowie as its backing audio is a smart call considering the significance of the singer's passing two weeks ago.
